Ron is experienced in producing and delivering talks to a variety of audiences including students at universities, colleges, workshops; special interest groups; training courses and seminars; the armed forces; private companies and cruise ships worldwide. 

The talks are given with the aid of PowerPoint presentation system and include photographs and graphics; they are delivered in a relaxed manner to inform, educate and to entertain.

By Destinations

The areas and the selection of talks for each area can be seen under the Architectural History section of the site. These talks relate to specific destinations, something that is particularly suitable for cruise ships and their itinerary.

Construction & Civil Engineering

In this programme Ron looks at the history and the development of Civil Engineering projects and the methods of construction from ancient to modern time.

    • Tunnels – from the digging of caves and the tombs of the ancient Pharaohs to the modern day wonder of the Channel Tunnel. 
    • Bridges – looks at the types and methods of creating bridges and some of the world’s most famous. 
    • Dams – the reasons, types and methods of damming water and the magnificence of the world’s most famous dams. 
    • Canals – their development, construction and the effect that they have had on commerce throughout history. 
    • High-rise Buildings – their construction and the quest to reach ever greater heights. 
    • Flood Protection – looks at the battle between land and sea and the contribution made by engineers.
    • Construction in the Ancient World - considers Egyptian, Greek and Roman architecture and the methods of construction in the ancient world.

This series of talks looks at the process of property development. It can be from the perspective of an individual hoping to make money from their home or can provide the knoweldge needed to assist professional developers. Subjects covered include:

Military 

A former Royal Marine Commando Ron saw service with 45 Commando in Aden and 41 Commando as part of the arctic warfare commando protecting NATOs Northern flank, where having completed his snow warfare and a parachute course he joined the Commando’s Recce Troop.  His next tour was on the amphibious assault ship HMS Intrepid as part of the Royal Marine detachment. On completion of his Regular service he joined the Royal Auxiliary Air Force Regiment and then moved on to the Territorial Army. He finished his military career with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel as the Commanding Officer of 168 Pioneer Regiment in the Royal Logistic Corps. He maintains his military links as Employer Liaison with the Committee of the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association and Chairman of the Lincolnshire Committee. As such he is available to deliver talks related to the Reserve Forces and his experiences.
